Privacy Policy

Last updated: October 2025

Who we are

SolarByPostcode is an independent website. For the purposes of UK and EU data-protection law, we are the data controller of any personal information collected via this site.

What information we collect

We collect minimal data to operate this website:

  • Contact emails — If you email us directly, we receive your name, email address, and message contents.
  • Technical data — Our web hosting provider (Cloudflare Pages) may log IP addresses and basic server information for security and performance purposes.
  • Anonymous analytics — We use Cloudflare Analytics to understand site usage. This is privacy-first analytics that does not track individual users, collect personal data, or use cookies.

We do not set cookies, tracking scripts, or analytics tools that collect personal information.
Note: Cloudflare may set strictly-necessary security cookies (e.g., bot-mitigation). These do not track you and are not used for advertising.

What we don’t collect

Unlike many websites, we do not collect:

  • Personal data before you request quotes (there are no forms on our site)
  • Browsing behaviour or page-view tracking linked to individuals
  • Marketing pixels or third-party advertising trackers
  • Search history or postcode lookups (these happen entirely in your browser)

Why we process your data (lawful bases)

We process the limited data we collect on the basis of legitimate interests to:

  • Respond to enquiries sent via email
  • Maintain website security and performance
  • Understand aggregate traffic patterns to improve the site

Where applicable, we may also process data to comply with legal obligations (e.g., responding to lawful requests).

Who we share data with

We do not sell, rent, or share your personal data with third parties. The only processing that occurs is:

  • Web hosting provider (Cloudflare Pages) — Stores website files and may log server data for security purposes.
  • Cloudflare Analytics — Provides anonymised, aggregated traffic data (no personal data collected).

International transfers

Our providers may process data on servers located outside the UK/EEA. When this happens, we rely on appropriate safeguards (such as standard contractual clauses) to protect your information to UK/EU standards.

When you request quotes

If you click our “Get expert quotes” button, you will be directed to our partner installer, Blue Ape Renewables. At that point, you leave our site, and any information you provide is governed by their privacy policy, not ours.

We receive a referral fee if you request quotes, but we do not receive any of your personal information from that process.

How long we keep data

  • Email correspondence: kept only as long as necessary to respond to your enquiry (typically 30–90 days), unless we need to retain it for legal reasons.
  • Server logs: automatically deleted according to our hosting provider’s standard retention policies (typically 30–90 days).

Your rights

Under UK and EU data-protection law (GDPR and UK GDPR), you have the right to:

  • Request access to any personal data we hold about you
  • Request correction or deletion of your data
  • Object to processing of your data
  • Request restriction of processing
  • Lodge a complaint with the Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO)

To exercise any of these rights, email [email protected]. We will respond within 30 days.

Cookies

This website does not set cookies or use tracking technologies. Because we don’t use cookies, we don’t show a cookie banner.
Note: Cloudflare may set strictly-necessary security cookies that do not track you and cannot be opted out of.

Security

We use reputable, security-focused hosting and industry-standard technical measures (e.g., HTTPS, access controls) to protect your data. No method of transmission or storage is 100% secure, but we work to keep risks low and proportionate.

Children’s data

Our site is aimed at a general audience and is not directed at children. We do not knowingly collect personal data from children.

Policy updates

We may update this policy to reflect changes in our practices or legal requirements. The “Last updated” date at the top will be revised accordingly. Material changes will be noted clearly.
